Welcome to
Project Save Our Children
Against Drunk Driving Inc.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission at Project Save Our Children
Against Drunk Driving Inc. is to give
children the "experience" of drinking and
driving without the fatal consequences of a
Drunk Driving accident. We provide an
educational program like that addresses the
issue of driving while intoxicated and
driving under the influence of drugs.
Teens that participate in this program have
a simulated, real life, hands-on experience
of what it feels like to drive under the
influence of drugs or alcohol. This is done
in a controlled environment with interactive
software and specially designed equipment.
Adults are on hand to supervise and explain
the simulated experiences as the teens
interact with the programs equipment.
Motivation
As the community educator for United
Lifestyles I am constantly looking for
programs that would serve the county in
which I work and live. In reviewing the
statistics for drinking and driving in our
county (Montcalm) and our state (Michigan) I
became convinced that this type of program
was just what was needed. Any program which
allows safe, hands-on experience for
teenagers and adults and encourages educated
thinking when it comes to drinking and
driving was worth investing time and energy
into. I am already seeing positive results
and am excited at the great potential this
program has to offer.

Drunk Driving, The Need For Change
Changing the way our children
think and react to situations that involve
drinking and driving and driving under the
influence of drugs, will help to prevent
needless tragedies. This changed way of
thinking may save their lives, and possibly
the lives of every other driver and
pedestrian they encounter while behind the
wheel of an automobile. We offer our
program to any community to help in teaching
and guiding teenagers about behaviors, life
choices. With experience to draw from, the
strong influential role of peer pressure
will be weakened when teens make decisions
involving drinking and driving and impaired
driving due to drugs.
Drunk Driving: Know
the Facts
Myth: Alcohol affects
everyone the same way.
Fact: Many factors affect reactions
to alcohol, including body weight, mental
state, and time of the day or night. Young
people are more negatively affected by
alcohol and other drugs then adults because
their minds and body’s are still developing.
Myth: Beer will not do permanent
damage.
Fact: All forms of alcohol present
the same risk for the mind and body.
A beer contains the same amount of alcohol
found in a glass of wine, a wine cooler, a
shot of whiskey, or the average mixed drink.

Alcohol is the
most abused drug in the United
States. It contains a
drug called ethanol, a depressant
that slows down brain activity,
reflexes and other physical skills. |
| - |
Recent medical
research has shed light on what
happens
to the brain when a teens drinks
alcohol. |
| - |
Since their
brains are still developing, teens
that drink are more likely to
significantly lower their mental
abilities. |
| - |
The part of the
brain most at risk appears to be the
hippocampus, a structure responsible
for learning and memory. Also at
risk is the prefrontal cortex, an
area responsible for decision
making. |
| - |
It takes half as
much alcohol to affect and damage
the teen’s brain
as it does to the adult brain. |
Long term Risks:
| - |
Lowered immune
system and increased risk of
diseases
|
| - |
Cancer of the
mouth and throat |
| - |
Cirrhosis of the
liver, a disease that is often fatal |
| - |
Permanent drain
damage |
| - |
High blood
pressure |
| - |
Kidney failure |
| - |
Cancer of the
pancreas |
| - |
Painful stomach
ulcers |
| - |
Weakened heart
muscles and bones |
