Hi Harley

I ordered the Intoxiclock and am hoping to have it here before our event which begins January 8.  We will be at Greenville High School for 4 days working with the Greenville Police Dept. for the Health Unit of the Physical Education classes. I also will be ordering the Safe Sim program and new computer within the next few days, but don't expect to have that available for our Greenville
classes.

I had an excellent meeting with the Caledonia Kiwanis club-got to present at their meeting and then met with the high school principal and asst. principal in Caledonia who are considering incorporating this into their trimester program-so we would visit their three times a year with the
program as part of their Health program.

January looks like it will be fairly busy with the four days in Greenville and then a safety night for parents in Ionia County at the end of the month.  I also will be meeting with the Superintendents and Principals from each district in the county about the middle of the month to discuss PSOC with
them.  So, lots of opportunities to push the program.:)     I had my first court referral-they called and asked if I could just do a one-on-one as they really wanted this young man to experience the program.  I spent a morning with him between Christmas and New Years and it was very
effective-I thought.  He was blown away with how out of control his driving was.  Although he was fairly well informed about statistics we were able to provide some new information for him to think about when it comes to drinking and driving.  He was a really nice kid, but the PO warned me that everyone he sends won't be that nice :)

Well, just wanted to touch base and let you know what was going on in this
snowy part of the world.  Take care. Norma

Good morning Harley.

I have some great news for you and a couple of suggestions for grants. I was awarded $5,085 yesterday from the Greenville.

Area Youth Foundation to purchase the intoxi-clock, the Safe Sim driving  program and the computer to support it!!!!!! Wahoo.  I also received a list of potential grantors, some of which I thought you might be interested in. State Farm Foundation-if you have State Farm Insurance in Arkansas then you would eligible for some of their grants.  For Mi. the site is
www.statefarm.com/foundati/cogrants.htm.  You can check there and see about possibilities for yourself. Also, if you have Rite Aid Drug stores they give out grants as well to communities they are located in.  Unfortunately this one has to be submitted by Jan. 1st.  www.riteaid.com/company/community/foundation.jsf  but it would be good for future reference. There is another grant I looked at this morning-it has Huge potential but it is a rigorous process and not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for or not.  It is through the Skoll Foundation-pretty hoity-toity if you know what I mean, but I think in principle PSOC meets the
criteria-you are definitely an entrepreneur and the nature of the program meets the criteria.  They dole out in the millions.  Anyway, go to the site and look it over and see what you think.  www.skollfoundation.org

Talk to you later :) Norma

Hi Harley,

Our event at the charter school went really well-they were very impressed with the program and would like to have us back again.

I have schools lined up for February, March, April and May so I think things are rolling. The sheriff's dept. has been great about helping out and I plan on visiting some local police departments in the next month or so to see if they will help out also. I have to get busy and sell some more advertising now that the New Year is here...hopefully people won't have spent all their advertising money by the time I get to them :) Well, have a great day and I'll talk to you later.

Norma

Hi Harley,

We had our first event in a high school-went very well.  We were there for two days and had the sheriff's dept. work with us on one of the days.  The kids had to write response papers afterwards and the teacher just sent them to me...very reflective and very good.  It will make for some nice quotations in press releases.  The trailer is up at the sign place having the first 5 pieces of advertising put on.  We are going to be in a parade tomorrow night...the Greenville Christmas parade.  To date we have sold $925.00 worth of advertising so I am pretty happy.  As soon as we get a sunny day I will take pictures, put them on a disk and get them off to you for the web.  Another charter school has invited us to come December 20th.  We did a show and tell up at the Country Club for members of "society" who originally funded the project.  It was like pulling teeth to get them to try the cart but eventually a few did and then they were very impressed.  Others were content to just try to walk a line with the goggles on.  I am targeting about five businesses a week to visit with personally and give them literature on the program and then hit them up for advertising.  I did one barter for a tune-up and oil changes for the year.  I also have an appointment with the SADD organization in the high school we already visited and will be challenging them to do a fund raiser to get their name on the trailer.  I figure if one business a week purchases advertising that would be $600.00 income a month which would provide $7200.00 a year.  I think we can do better than that, but at least we could function on that amount if we had to.  The dealership who donated the truck has decided to fix all kinds of things for free for us, so after the parade I will be returning the truck to them for a little more engine work, brake job, and some rust repair.  When people take the time to listen and think about the program they are very impressed.  I just see such great potential, it all just takes time.  Hope all is well on your end of things.  The weather man is predicting a foot of snow for us tomorrow, so I guess we'll see how the golf cart performs in the white stuff :)  Take care. Norma

Hey Harley,

Hope you made it home safely and that you had no transmission problems on the way home.  I also hope that you enjoyed yourself here and found our group of supporters to be receptive to the Project.  I was really surprised that it was in the paper the very next day.  We also got some other publicity...apparently someone saw your truck and trailer rolling into town and called one of the Grand Rapids radio stations to find out what it was about.  One of the husband's of our nurses heard the question on the radio.  I will be contacting the station this morning to give them all the info.  That is another example of the power of advertising on your vehicle eh?  I received a really nice email from the sheriff's dept. saying how impressed they were with the whole program and also one from one of our board members who was here...offering to help raise money for the program.  I am just now starting to weed through all the stuff which landed in my office on Friday.   Well, we sure appreciate all you have done to help us get started with this program and I will keep you updated as we progress.  Talk to you soon. UPDATE:  United Lifestyles - Greenville, Michigan

May 2006, Norma Sower from United Lifestyles - Greenville, Michigan, contacted me and informed me that she was able to acquire a grant that would cover the equipment to start her own chapter of Project Save Our Children Against Drunk Driving Inc. With that great news I began to contact my suppliers for the equipment. The major part of the equipment is the specially designed golf cart. Norma decided to go with the four seater, as it will allow two kids to ride in the back to feel what it is like in a vehicle with a drunk driver. On June 9, I delivered the golf cart to Norma in Michigan. It gave me a lot of pleasure to see the involvement from her community and to put on a small demonstration for the people who attended. United Lifestyles provided everyone with dinner and afterwards we continued with the demonstrations. I will be checking in with Norma from time to time to see how her program is running as it will start in the beginning of the school year 2006-2007. With that note, I am pleased to announce that United Lifestyles, Greenville, Michigan, is the first chapter in a family of many others to come. Thank you again Norma for seeking out the information and for going through all the hard work that you did to secure the grant and obtain the equipment.

Thank you,

Harley Fox

I have been contacted by the community educator for United Lifestyles in Greenville, Michigan. She is very interested in having Project Save Our Children added to the curriculum in her school. She is the coordinator for Safe Kids Chapter in Montcalm County, and I have been in communication with her and have offered the program to her and her county. I was very interested and highly honored that someone read the articles about me and my program in Fatal Visions magazine. Fatal Visions magazine, which offers up all their equipment, puts out articles once a month about important issues and other related information to people who would be interested in programs that incorporate Fatal Vision equipment. The articles in Fatal Visions magazines are called “The Straight Line.” Fatal Vision can be contacted at Innocorp, LTD. Phone number: 1-800-272-5023. The article about Project Save Our Children is in Volume 6 in their sales catalogue.
