In setting up this Poker Run
I also asked local businesses to help me.
With the help of Wal-Mart of Berryville,
Tyson of Berryville, Pepsi Corp. of
Harrison, AR. And Smith’s Cycle Sales of
Green Forest, Evans Feed Store, Green
Forest, and Tanners Hardware and local
banks, Arvest Bank, Community First Bank,
First National Bank of Berryville, First
National Bank of Green Forest, and Road
Dawg’s Leather. I was able to give out a
variety of wonderful prizes. Which included
first prize; a leather jacket, vest, and
chaps and six additional prizes all donated
from Road Dawg’s Leather Shop Eureka
Springs, AR.
With the help of Wal-Mart, Tyson and Pepsi
Corp., who donated all food and drinks, we
were able to provide all participants with a
great lunch. With the help of Smith Cycle
Sales, who provided a $1,500.00
mini-chopper, Evans Feed Store, who provided
a $400.00 western pleasure saddle, and
Tanners Hardware, who provided a $500.00 gas
barbeque We were able to raffle away these
grand gifts in the process earning a lot of
donations towards the project. At the end of
the Poker Run and before we started lunch,
Rick Wallis, superintendent of Eureka
Springs, AR. As well an active member of the
Eureka Springs Rotary Club, who at that time
donated a $2,500.00 check.
With the donations from the Poker Run, the
letter campaign to Green Forest and Eureka
Springs. With the glowing endorsements from
the Chief of police of each town, I was able
to raise enough money to purchase the Sidne
Car.
I contacted Intercorp and arranged delivery
of the Sidne Car and the training on the
Sidne Car. I was very excited when the
equipment arrived and the trainer got here.
Well like all things, not everything is
perfect and unfortunately the Sidne Car did
not work. Because of the various terrains
and hilly conditions in our area so, back to
the drawing board.
In talking with the S.R.O.’s of the three
schools, I got their feedback on what they
thought would make a perfect vehicle to
teach the outside portion driving course. I
then took time to search the internet and
look for the perfect vehicle, unfortunately
the perfect vehicle was non-existent. I
contacted a local golf cart dealer and after
a long conversation and design
modifications. I came up with what I think
is the perfect vehicle for the driving
portion of Project Save Our Children.
